School Applications: Expensive and Stressful
I’m currently working on several applications for business and law schools, which is somewhat painful. Just the task of assembling all the information about myself is very time-consuming. Tack on essays, recommendations, tests, and those crazy fees, and it’s really a nightmare. Also, who in the world designed the LSAC site? It’s impossible to navigate. Even worse, I have a general feeling that the acceptance rates at schools this year will be much lower due to the dismal economy. I remember seeing studies showing that the number of applications, particularly to business school, increases during recessions. It’s almost amazing that anyone even bothers applying! However, I suppose this is what economists mean by self-selection.
Ah, well, if I don’t get in this year, then there’s always next year. I’ll just make sure to cast a wider net (and to save up enough money to do so). I just don’t really want to leave the Bay Area at the moment. I did just get here after all! Then again, being broke in the Bay Area for a year may change my mind.
